I started my business, Equiphoria (Equine + Euphoria), back in the year 2000 when the need to have my own horse 'fixed' arose after a cross-country crash in the Snowy Mountains.
Both my horse and I were injured at the time.
I hadn't realised that my horse, Busy, had hurt himself until I took him for a light hack out up the paddock when I had slightly recovered and he bucked! Something he had never done! I felt so guilty not knowing.
I had just spent weeks with multiple sessions per week seeing my human bodyworker help fix me and I still wasn't fantastic.
It was only logical that he was hurting too and needed an Equine Professional to help him out.
I contacted as many therapists as I could (which were very few and far between back in 2000) but I could not secure assistance.
I figured I would go and learn how to fix my own horse!
Well 3 years and a lot of money later - studying courses, learning anatomy and physiology and 100 test horses later I still didn't find the answers for my horse...
My beautiful horse went on to retire to a home with 2 young boys to love him to pieces. He would cart them down to the river, two up, most afternoons and home again.
Fast forward to 2020...
I have now been an Equine Bodywork professional and kept learning and working and achieving excellent results on my clients horses with a successful business.
I have actively worked on horses in many and varied disciplines including; dressage, eventing, showjumping, endurance, racing (both gallops and harness), polocrosse, reining, team penning, ranch sorting, showing, pony club, mounted games and pleasure riding and possibly some that I have missed in this list! I have looked after horses bodies competing at State, National and International levels.
The main sports I have competed in myself are eventing, dressage and endurance but I have also taste tested most other sports on my horses so I know what pressures are on the horse with each different discipline.
Looking after the horses Musculo-Skeletal Systems is better used as a regular maintenance, rather that a fix it solution, where possible as it helps to prevent issues rather than deal with the aftermath or dysfunctional horses.
What really excites me now is training people and coaching them to be excellent Equine Bodyworkers and more recently coaching Equine Business Owners on how to create their Ideal Equine Business.
